41 Megapixel Camera on a mobile phone! (& no, I did not miss a decimal)
Besides that one hell of camera, 808 features a 1.3 single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4-inch AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) display, and a curved plate of Gorilla Glass to cover it up. 808′s crazy camera features a Carl Zeiss lens, and is capable of recording video in 1080p. Despite Nokia’s branding, you’ll only ever be able to capture images as large as 38 megapixels (I guess that would still be fine for most of the junta)

The obvious bad thing here is the thing’s size — the 808′s thick body certainly makes it a handful, and the large camera pod juts out of the device’s rear end pretty dramatically.

Coming to the important part, the price, no idea what will it be in India & more importantly, when will it be available in India, but it is expected to be shoppable in Europe this year at Euro 450 "only".

Pre-crime detection in US! Minority Report?

I recently read this post on CNet about Pre-Crime Criminal Intent Testing experiment going on in the US. Reminds me of Minority Report. Freaky!
The only difference between this experiment & the movie is, in the movie it was Psychics who were helping detect crimes before they happened. In the experient, they are using algorithms. (Using Psychics sounds way cooler!)

US Homeland Security is building a "prototype screening facility" that it hopes will use factors such as ethnicity, gender, breathing, and heart rate to "detect cues indicative of mal-intent." They call this project, FAST, Future Attribute Screening Technology.

Shocking : Rs. 32 set as the BPL limit!

Reblogging an article by the Economic Times, the Planning Commission of India has been updated to Rs. 32/day for Urban areas & Rs. 26/day for Rural areas.

I have just 3 words to say, WTF! If that is how they plan to make India a superpower by 2020, may God help us.

EVIL TREES ENCROACH IIT KANPUR LAWNS

or at least that is what the administration thinks.

Three monsoons ago, a young faculty member, planted 35 trees in the area between Faculty Building and Lecture Hall Complex. He and many others had been asking the Institute for years to share the master plan for the campus and tell the residents what areas will remain green in the long run. But no master plan is ready, even after a decade. So he takes matter into his own hands, and plants several trees in an area where he believes and is reasonably sure, no construction will be done in future.

He is reprimanded by the Institute to plant those trees without permission, but miraculously the trees survive the wrath of the administration. The faculty member continues to take care of them at a significant personal cost. End of flash back.

After 3 years, all those trees have been uprooted, without assigning any reason. (Whether the trees have been given any reason, I don't know. At least, the campus residents have not been kept informed.) This is strange. If the trees were planted at a location which was to be used for future construction, or if trees were planted in a way that it was inconsistent with the landscaping plan of the Institute, then they should have been removed three years ago. If there was no such problem, and the only issue was lack of permission at that time, then this encroachment by trees :-) could have been regularized.

Interesting discussion going on in the Institute. People feel that the death warrants were issued only because the birth certificates were considered illegitimate by the Institute administration.

Also, why were these trees not transported & replanted else where, why did have to die?

College Girl Stripped by Teacher!

College girl was stripped and searched, just to find a cell phone.

This happened at the Prince Venkateshwara College of Arts and Sciences near Selaiyur, Tamil Nadu. The girl was taken to rest room and stripped there by the physical education teacher. Later, 150 students went to the Vice Chancellor of Madras University to file a complaint.
